RSSapalooza

Hi folks I have been exploring the world of RSS today and I have found it is very easy to use them. I really like the way they work by having a reader where all your RSS feeds go to and you can check them all at once. some of the feeds I chose are a steampunk blog, a rugby news feed, an enternainment feed from SMH and a picture of the day feed from the powerhouse museum in Sydney.
At my work we could use RSS feeds for a number of blogs once we get them going such as a new books available also for events coming up. I think libraries could use the RSS to inform people about what is happening at the library to entertain with funny stories and also to inform people changes at the library.
I shall be using RSS feeds now that i know what they are and how they work.

Until next time
Stay cool

I have been looking on Flickr this week and reading about the cool ways people share photos. I was amazed to find out how popular it is and how many thousands of photos are on there. I think the way libraries are using Flickr is really cool because it is a storage tool as well as a way to share what they are doing be it author talks or whatever. I found a cool picture I think really shows the awesome power of nature and something really Australian. I couldn't work out how to add an image so I have added a link instead. The picture I found is of a bush fire in NT which comes from Duhcati's photostream on Flickr.

I really like this picture because of the different colours shown and some of the feelings it invokes in me because I have seen some fires this close before and it is just a crazy thing to see.
I am seriously considering putting some of my own photos on Flickr now after seeing how easy it is to use but I may make it private though at this stage, but I will be talking to the powers that be about organising a library Flickr account to show off some of the cool stuff we do.

Well till next time thanks for reading.

How libraries use blogs

I have just been looking on Technorati to see how other libraries use blogs. I have found some really cool blogs out there from libraries all over the world. I like that libraries are using blogs to promote events and letting their followers know what is going on. I found it really interesting to see what other libraries are doing and how they are using blogs. I especially like the ones that have video and pictures as it helps to visualise what they are posting about. i found the Christchurch City Libraries blog very informative and easy to navigate and it was very well set up with pictures and I like the use of the subject cloud. Another blog I found very good was the Smithsonian libraries one which was fairly plain but had some very interesting info on it.
I am hoping that we can take some of these good ideas to use in a blog for my library if it is approved.
Thanks for reading about my discoveries Of web 2.0 technologies.

First ever blogging experience

Hi everybody in the blogging universe,
This is my first ever post on any blog ever and i am finding it very cool and easy to use.
I am doing this blog as a way to learn about web 2.0 technology through a course for my work in the library. I hope to have a better understanding of web 2.0 when I finish this course and maybe start using these technologies to let the public know what is happening at the library.
